FEEDING
Lionfish feed during the day and at night where they hide in reef crevices and stalk and corner its prey by using expanded pectoral fins.
Lionfish swallow their prey whole often with a rapid inhaltion vacuum method and are capable of eating fish 2/3 their body size. When consuming a large meal, lionfish expand its stomach over 30 times in volume. Lionfish are capable of long-term fasting in the event no prey are available. |
