Lionfish Course

The Lionfish online training course will provide interested persons with an overview of:

• History of the Invasion
• Life History 
• Impacts of Lionfish of Native Species
• Fishery Regulations
• Culling Equipment - what's allowed and what's not
• Safe Lionfish Handling & Cleaning
• Submitting your Catch Data
• Cooking

If you're working towards your scuba specialty course, you'll complete the practical portion of the course with an instructor licensed by the Belize Fisheries Department as a Lionfish Hunter that is authorized to teach the specialty by their dive training association.  The practical portion of the course will include two dives and the following activities:

• Practice session with polespears
• Culling lionfish
• Safe handling underwater​
  

The eLearning Course is also suitable for snorkelers and volunteers participating in marine science projects in Belize.  Each participant will receive a certificate of completion that can be used to apply for a Lionfish Hunter card from Fisheries or for further training.
