Belize Fisheries Department has the following regulations with regards to spearing lionfish while scuba diving.

STORAGE METHODS
All culled lionfish must be removed from the sea and not fed to marine life. Therefore anyone hunting lionfish must have a means to store the captured lionfish while completing the dive.
A variety of devices are used for storing captured lionfish including:
Visitors who will be taking a specialty course on lionfish can discuss storage methods with their instructor.

- clear dry bags
- spare spears
- modified 5 gallon water bottles
- specially designed receptacles like the ZooKeeper.
